The full form of SWAYAM is Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds. The SWAYAM portal is launched to achieve ​three education principles – access, equity, and quality. The Ministry of Education (formerly the Ministry of Human Resource & ​Development) launched the SWAYAM program on 9th July 2017. It aims to provide millions of students with a quality education ​through e-learning courses.

What is SWAYAM?

It is aimed at offering ​free and high-quality e-learning education to students ranging from Class 9th to post-graduation. The platform employs cutting-edge ​pedagogy and upgraded audio-visual and multimedia tools to deliver courses. It covers a wide range of subjects in higher education ​and provides skill development courses for the skill sector. As of December 2022, there are over 2000 courses available on the ​platform, all taught by experienced instructors. These courses are carefully curated, produced, and delivered by nine National ​Coordinators. It includes NPTEL, AICTE, UGC, NCERT, NIOS, IGNOU, IIM-B, CEC, and NITTTR. Accessing SWAYAM MOOC courses for ​learning is completely free of charge, without any fees. Moreover, upon completing the course and passing the exam at designated ​centers, participants can obtain a SWAYAM certificate. A nominal exam fee is required to enroll in the exam
